Dori Mikszta, a watercolor artist, embarked on a journey to discover herself and the world’s light through painting. Raised in the farm plains of central Illinois, she spent a few years in the bustling city of Chicago before settling in North Carolina, halfway between the ocean and the mountains. While raising a family, attending sporting and dance events, preparing gourmet meals, and engaging in crafts, Dori never quite found her artistic calling.

Her husband encouraged her to try her hand at painting and her work quickly moved from acrylic to watercolor during the pandemic. She couldn’t learn enough, tried a little of everything, the journey being the point of it all, always pushing to learn, improve and discover. She draws inspiration from the stunning sunsets and sunrises of the Appalachian Mountains, the wildlife found there, and her favorite dog in the world, Chancho.

Dori splits her time between Durham and Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Dori enjoys travel, reading, and a stunning view. Dori exhibits and sells her work at the Banner Elk Artists Gallery in Banner Elk, North Carolina where she is a member of the co-op.
